For the first time since the beginning of the conflict, a grain vessel containing more than 26,000 tonnes of maize was authorized to leave the port of Odessa (Ukraine) on Monday August 1st.

The departure siren of a cargo ship sounded on the port of Odessa (Ukraine), Monday August 1, for the first time since the beginning of the war. The first grain ship, containing more than 26,000 tons of corn, benefited from the agreement signed between Russia and Ukraine to allow the export of precious Ukrainian cereals. Leaving this Monday morning, the cargo should reach Istanbul (Turkey), Tuesday August 2nd.

In the Turkish port, its cargo will be checked, in accordance with the agreement. The ship will then head for Tripoli (Lebanon). The journey of a few days is monitored hour by hour from a control center based in Turkey. Around a table, a few meters from each other, Ukrainians and Russians will watch over the passage of each ship. The resumption of Ukrainian exports is a global issue, and even a survival one for many countries.
