Images of vandalized corridors of the Hubert-Aquin pavilion circulated on social networks on Friday.
The Presswho went there, found dozens of slogans of all kinds written in paint on the corridors leading to the premises of the student associations.
“I eat rich people for lunch”, “The future is not for those who want to prevent us from unraveling the system”, “Burning condos”, could we read there in particular. Anarchist symbols were also drawn by the vandals.
A CCTV camera is also believed to have been covered in paint, emblazoned with the words “Destroy this camera” and “Stop monitoring us *sti”.
According to our information, the damage would have been committed earlier this week. UQAM restricted access to the area on Thursday to conduct an investigation. A complaint to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal has also been filed.
“Steps are therefore underway to identify the person or persons responsible for these acts,” said University spokesperson Jenny Desrochers by email.
The institution recalls that it “does not tolerate acts of vandalism and will take the necessary measures under its regulations”, without specifying which ones.
“In addition, painting work will be carried out as soon as possible to restore the premises to their original condition,” added Mr.me Rocks.
