Government of Canada makes new investments for global health at G20

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promises to financially help developing countries to improve their capacities to manufacture vaccines against COVID-19.

At the G20 summit in Indonesia, Mr. Trudeau explained that the private sector must help foreign governments build schools and hospitals.

The Prime Minister has pledged to fund infrastructure projects in Asia to the tune of $750 million, which will be administered by a crown corporation.

This is the largest share of funding announced so far, as the Liberal government gradually rolls out its Indo-Pacific strategy.

Trudeau also announced $80 million to support health systems around the world. Most of the funds will be earmarked to help countries prevent and respond to pandemics.

The funding will also support projects to help developing countries manufacture messenger RNA vaccines against COVID-19.
