Wednesday June 22, three days after his electoral setback in the legislative elections, Emmanuel Macron spoke during a televised address. The president, who has lost the absolute majority in the National Assembly, is trying to find compromises.
Since Tuesday, June 21, Emmanuel Macron has received the leaders of political parties in order to find an agreement, while he lost the absolute majority in the National Assembly after the second round of the legislative elections. Its objective is to find a majority in order to govern. “I believe that we must develop this program, this agreement (…) which allows us to move forward”declares Edouard Philippe, former Prime Minister and president of the Horizons party.
A form of national union does not convince the opposition forces, who are asking for concessions on pensions or on social policy. “There is a need for a government, which, precisely, does the opposite of its policy”, assures Adrien Quatennens, Nupes/LFI deputy from the North. Marine Le Pen, National Rally (RN) MP for Pas-de-Calais, says that RN elected officials will vote for the measures that suit them.
