New products, events, temporary activities… Each week, the Plaisirs section brings you gourmet news not to be missed. So, mark your calendars, because the month of October is off to a flying start with several events not to be missed!

Little chefs in action

In the wake of the C’est moi le chef! workshops, which began in 2017 and which have so far attracted more than 10,000 children and parents, the festival of the same name is back for a second edition, from 1er to October 16. With a 100% virtual formula, the province’s little chefs are invited to workshops that will take them on a journey to three culinary destinations: Mexico, Italy and Aboriginal Quebec. Under the benevolent sponsorship of the chef of the restaurant Renoir, Olivier Perret, the Abenaki chef Lysanne O’Bomsawin (Catering Québénakis), the chef Mirko D’Agata (pizzeria No.900 and pizzeria Morso) as well as Cara Carmina (illustrator of Frida, it’s me) will transform Saturdays and Sundays for young people into cultural and gourmet adventures: cooking workshops with personalized support, games, contests, anecdotes and kits overflowing with gifts… They won’t be bored!

Montreal on vegan time

On October 8 and 9, fans of veganism, seasoned or novice, as well as all those who are curious to know more about a diet that has become a real way of life, can go to the Palais des Congrès de Montréal to participate in the Montreal Vegan Festival. This 9e edition will host many kiosks, of course, but also several conferences and demonstrations in French and English. Among the interesting activities on the program, Afroveganism will be discussed in a lecture by Joe G. Thomas. Criminal lawyer Chloé Surprenant will present the status of animals under Canadian law. And on a more gourmet note, the popular Caroline Huard, alias Loounie, will teach visitors how to cook a shredded mushroom taco, while Evy Mendes, from Cantine Toca Toca, will concoct comforting vegan dishes with western inspirations. African. Entrance to the festival is free for everyone!

ramen galore

Japan’s signature dish — it even dethroned sushi internationally, it seems — now has its own festival in Montreal! Created by the organizers of Yatai MTL, a street food event that has become very popular, Ramen Ramen will take place from October 11 to 16, 2022. It will first consist of a festive launch party on Monday October 10 at the Coeur des sciences de UQAM, as part of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. Festival-goers will enjoy ramen and Japanese whiskey there, while watching the cult film Tampopo and listening to DJs. Then, until October 16, it will be possible to taste and vote for their favorite ramen in 24 participating establishments across the city, whether Japanese or not. A special passport will also make it possible to have discounts in these establishments. Be there like the 40,000 people already registered for this event!
