Special brunches in the Old Port
It’s the weekend that you celebrate the mothers of your life, and you haven’t planned anything yet? You can, in this case, combine a Sunday stroll in the Old Port of Montreal with one of the brunches offered in several restaurants in this district. At Jacopo, which is inspired by Italian trattorias, a two-course menu includes mackerel toast with a poached egg and a creamy gorgonzola risotto. A buffet-type formula is offered at the Vieux-Port Steakhouse, with breakfast stations, salads, meats, hot meals and desserts. It is also possible to enjoy a brunch buffet at Maggie Oakes, where egg spaces, rotisserie, cold meats, cheeses and desserts (including sweets, waffles and macaroons) await visitors.
New BBB festival
Gourmet events in the region begin early this year, with the addition to this long list of the new Food, Beer and Drink Festival, which takes place at Parc Casimir-Dessaulles in Saint-Hyacinthe on weekends. On site, some forty exhibitors, including distilleries, microbreweries, cider makers and mead makers from the Montérégie region and Quebec, invite us to discover their products. And to accompany these libations, all sorts of dishes, from smoked meat to orchard products, including beaver tails and fudge, are also on the menu. Something to delight those who love outdoor festivals and excite their taste buds. They will also be able, incidentally, to loosen their legs by taking part in board and escape games.
Apple blossoms
We know that summer is truly upon us when the apple trees are in bloom in the orchards. And what a magnificent spectacle, often very short, that of these hundreds of trees overflowing with white flowers! In order not to miss it, we therefore advise you, depending on the region where you are, to follow the social networks of the cider houses around you. In Montérégie, an impressive list of addresses, including several with products for sale perfect for picnics, is offered. Same thing in the Eastern Townships, or in the Lower Laurentians, which have very nice facilities. This year, Domaine Lafrance even erected a sparkling cider sabering arch at the entrance to the orchards to create an original — and highly Instagrammable — activity and enhance the traditional walk among the apple trees in blossom. Good visits!
