Shopping, Asian version
For those who love to make finds at the T&T supermarket, or participate in the Japanese YATAI festival (from June 8 to 11), a new event is added to the calendar of Time Out Market Montreal on May 26, 27 and 28: the ASIASIA market. As part of Asian Heritage Month, the cultures of several countries (Cambodia, China, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam) will come together in a market that will include 30 merchants, 10 associations and a dozen activities and workshops. Demonstrations of traditional costumes, martial arts and K-pop dance will alternate with tea workshops, tastings of daifuku mochi, kimchi popcorn and roasted coffee, as well as kiosks, ecological bento boxes and artisanal ceramics. Interesting !
First Fridays are back
On June 2, the First Fridays, these monthly gourmet and festive evenings, will kick off their 2023 season on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park in Montreal. As usual, starting at 4 p.m., they will bring together dozens of street food trucks and kiosks as well as open-air bars to treat participants to multiple savory and sweet creations of live music provided by DJs. Each First Friday will also celebrate, until October 6, one of the city’s cultural communities. On June 2, for example, head for Brazil, along the “Cultural Street” of the gourmet ambassadors of this country: BIBI Jus.cery, Churras BBQ, Mamãe Maria, Rio Açai and many others.
Recipes and lifestyle
Rare are the foodies Quebecers who have not yet heard of Elena, this Italian restaurant in the Saint-Henri district of Montreal, founded in 2018 by the same owners of the award-winning Nora Gray. This establishment, with its neat retro decor and friendly atmosphere, cooks some of the best homemade pizzas and pastas in town. But it is also distinguished by a more human and healthy approach to catering, a vision that we discover when reading Salad Pizza Wine. And so many good things from Elena, which has just been published. Colorful and generous, this book contains 115 recipes, including the pizza, hoagies and pasta that have made the reputation of the place. He also offers us an overview of the values of the co-owners of the restaurant, in the form of reflections and anecdotes. A very beautiful book that we warmly recommend.
