Golden Globes | Three selections for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune

The Golden Globes organization unveiled its list of selections on Monday, as its relationship with the Hollywood industry remains rocky. No broadcaster has been announced for the awards ceremony to take place on January 9.

Dune, by Denis Villeneuve, was selected in the category of best dramatic film, alongside Belfast, Coda, King richard and The Power of the Dog.

In the musical / comedy film category, we find in particular Don’t Look Up, West Side Story, Licorice Pizza, tick… tick… BOOM! and Cyrano.

The practices of the Golden Globes, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), have been criticized since last year. Its financial practices, ethics and lack of diversity are among the elements of its operation that have prompted many studios and movie personalities to boycott the organization this year.

NBC, its broadcaster, is one of them. On its website, the organization says it has completely revised its rules and made bottom-up changes in the code of conduct (of its members), ethics, diversity, equity, inclusion, governance, and more.

The HFPA also recalled having admitted 21 new members, its largest and most diverse cohort to date. The Golden Globes have been awarded since 1944.

The framework in which the winners will be announced remains to be determined.
