The Girondins de Bordeaux are giving up their professional status, France Bleu Gironde learned on Thursday July 25, confirming information from the newspaper Sud Ouest. A status that the club had obtained in 1937.

This decision results in the automatic termination of the players’ professional contracts, who will be released, and the loss of the accreditation of the training center, which hosted 70 youngsters. On Tuesday, the club had agreed to be relegated to the National (3rd division), due to a lack of agreement with the American group Fenway Sports Group for a takeover.

According to France Bleu Gironde, the club now has an appointment on July 30 before the commercial court to request the opening of a judicial recovery procedure. The objective: to freeze debts estimated at 90 million euros. The club, which employs between 70 and 90 employees, will also have to present a social plan.
