Often associated with All Saints’ Day, the town of Lahr in Germany has made it its emblem. Every year, the town is adorned with thousands of chrysanthemums. The tourists are amazed.
Every fall, for two weeks, chrysanthemums become the stars of the small German town of Lahr. “There is so much diversity, so much color”marvels a woman. Another indicates that “people come from Belgium, Luxembourg, France and all over Germany just for the chrysanthemums”. A flower festival, which in its 24 years of existence, attracts whole busloads of tourists, like a group from Moselle.
An edible chrysanthemum
Guide Martin Frey reveals: “We have 20,000 chrysanthemum bushes Lahr (…) and 1,000 waterfalls.” This success, Reiner Leppertformer gardener of the city, does notwould have never imagined when the event was born in 1999. Alongside the ornamental chrysanthemums is an edible variety. This chrysanthemum can be enjoyed from bud to bud. Chrysanthemum is used in all sauces: pesto, beer, tea or sausage.
