A real and serious risk of confrontation”. In a decree published Tuesday, December 5 in the Official Journal, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin prohibits the travel of supporters of Olympique Lyonnais on the occasion of the match against Olympique de Marseille this Wednesday at the Vélodrome, more than one months after the violent accidents which led to the cancellation and postponement of the meeting in November.

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from zero hour to midnight, the travel (…) of any person claiming to be a supporter of the Olympique Lyonnais club (…) is prohibited between the municipalities of the Rhône department, on the one hand, and the commune of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), on the other hand“, it is written in this decree in the Official Journal.

The Ministry of the Interior justifies this travel ban by the fact that “a real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs exists“, recalling that “thehe travel of the Olympique Lyonnais club is very frequently a source of disturbances to public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters“. Moreover, “during meetings organized in Marseille, certain supporters of the Olympique de Marseille club have regularly adopted violent behavior for many years“, continues the decree.

On Sunday October 29, the championship meeting between the two teams could not be played in Marseille. The OL bus was stoned near the Vélodrome stadium. Lyon coach Fabio Grosso suffered an eye injury after a projectile was thrown at the vehicle.
