The government does not want to delay. The Minister of the Interior hopes that the immigration bill will be passed “Tuesday evening” in Parliament, while the decisive meeting of the joint committee (CMP) is scheduled for Monday, a week after the vote on the rejection motion by the deputies.
“We will have, I hope, a text and very quickly, we will put in place these measures to protect the French”declared Gérald Darmanin Thursday December 14 on RTL. “We need these firm measures. I think that everyone – in any case in the oppositions that we met, in particular the LR and the centrists – (has) understood that we must now stop the political game and have a text to the French”pleaded the Minister of the Interior.

Three days after the rejection of the text in the National Assembly, discussions must continue on Thursday on this project, the government wondering about the extent of the concessions to be made to the right in view of the CMP. According to the Ministry of Relations with Parliament, in the event of agreement on a text in the joint committee, the vote in both chambers would take place on Tuesday.
The Minister of the Interior judged, like Bruno Le Maire, “obvious that we must get closer to the Senate text” which, he recalls, contains, beyond repressive measures, “a regularization measure” undocumented workers. “The LRs themselves voted for a regularization measure, on a case-by-case basis, different from the majority. But finally, the principle was accepted and that is so much the better”, he observed. In the event of a blockage in the Assembly, he also recalled that he was not “favorable” at 49.3 because “if we are not able to agree, that means that Parliament is not functioning well”.
