An XXL device to anticipate the actions of angry farmers. Gérald Darmanin announced that 15,000 members of the police would be mobilized on Monday, following an interministerial crisis unit on Sunday January 28. The Minister of the Interior explained that President Emmanuel Macron had given “for instructions” of “guarantee that tractors do not go to Paris and large cities so as not to create extremely serious difficulties”. And in Ile-de-France, “he argued that the Rungis international market “needs to be able to operate as well as the Parisian airports of Orly and Roissy”.

On the outskirts of Rungis and Roissy airport, armored gendarmerie vehicles took up position at the start of the evening to prevent their access from being blocked. The same instructions will be applied for provincial airports and major supply markets. The Minister of the Interior said he expected “a difficult week” to come with “the announcement of the blockages” by agricultural union organizations including the FNSEA and its youth branch, Young Farmers (JA). The FNSEA and the JA of the Greater Paris Basin have notably announced a “siege of the capital for an indefinite period” starting Monday, at 2 p.m.

As since the start of the farmers’ demonstrations, Gérald Darmanin called on the police to “moderation” asking them not to “not intervene on blocking points but secure them”. On the other hand, he asked them to intervene in the event of damage and attacks by foreign trucks and to proceed “to arrests”.
