Manager Charlie Montoyo’s men have not been defeated in their last five outings. It should be noted, however, that the last two clashes of the only Canadian formation of the major leagues were stopped by Mother Nature, while the score was tied.
Against the Bronx Bombers, it was a home run good for two runs by George Springer that made the difference. The 32-year-old veteran kicked the ball out of bounds in the sixth inning.
The Jays relievers then did the job and Tim Maza took the opportunity to sign his first save during the preseason schedule. He also struck out two batters during his short stint on the mound.
The victory was recorded by Julian Merryweather (1-1), while the loss landed on the record of Clarke Schmidt (1-1).
In the loss, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Josh Donaldson stretched their arms.
The Blue Jays have two preseason games left before the official start of the 2022 season next Friday when the Texas Rangers visit Rogers Center. In the meantime, the Queen City club has an appointment with the Detroit Tigers on Monday and the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.
In short
The New York Mets doubled the Miami Marlins 8-4. Robinson Cano stood out with four hits in as many plate appearances. He also drove in a run and walked home plate twice.
Gunner Nick Pivetta allowed just one run on six hits from the field in five innings in the Boston Red Sox’ 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rafael Devers homered among the winners.
Bryce Harper hit two homers and drove in three runs in an 8-7 Philadelphia Phillies victory over the Detroit Tigers. The holder of two National MVP titles has stretched his arms six times since the start of the preparatory calendar.
