More than half of 18-30 year olds believe they do not see their grandparents enough, according to a report from Petits Frères des Pauvres. The study warns of the growing isolation of our seniors.

If a quarter of older people say they see their children and grandchildren less than before and more than one in two young people see their grandparents less, there are also 52% of 18-30 year olds who are asking for more connections with the elderly. And 44% of those aged 60 and over are so towards young people. For the association of Petits Frères des Pauvres, maintaining the link hangs by a thread.

“Giving this news is extremely pleasing”

“The health crisis has made it possible to rediscover something fantastic: that the telephone was used to make calls. […] Giving this news and saying hello, even if it’s not something very regular, it makes people extremely happy.”, explains Yann Lasnier, general delegate of the Petits Frères des Pauvres. According to the association, for young people as well as older people, insecurity is a factor in weakening relations between generations. The association therefore recommends prioritizing intergenerational actions in favor of the oldest, but also the most precarious.
