Negotiations for a truce in the Gaza Strip are to be held on Thursday, August 15, regarding a ceasefire and the release of the fifteen hostages.
The Israeli delegation has confirmed its participation while Hamas remains in the background and observes. An agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached on Thursday, August 15. The plan submitted by US President Joe Biden includes a ceasefire, an exchange of Israeli hostages for prisoners and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
However, a point of contention remains, as Israel says it does not want to withdraw militarily from the Palestinian enclave. “Even if a ceasefire agreement is signed, the Israelis want to retain the right to intervene militarily”explains Maxime Perez, former Middle East correspondent. The climate of tension could encourage the Hebrew State and Hamas to find common ground quickly to avoid an escalation in the Middle East with Iran or Hezbollah. The families of hostages continue to put pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
