Gatineau | Three suspects arrested after preventive confinement of a secondary school

(Gatineau) Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday following a long police operation by the Gatineau Police Service (SPVG), which notably required the preventive confinement of a high school.


According to information sent by press release from the SPVG, a call was received at 9-1-1 around 1:30 p.m. to report that a possibly armed person had made threats against a student at the Polyvalent school Le Carrefour.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, a police deployment was launched at the school as well as in the vicinity of the Les Promenades shopping center.

As a preventive measure, the secondary school has been placed in confinement. Students and teachers had to barricade themselves inside the classrooms until all threats were removed and the operation ended.

The intervention team was also called to the scene.

While we made sure to secure the establishment, the investigators carried out their checks to validate the information transmitted during the report to 9-1-1.

Three suspects were eventually identified in this case and located while in the vicinity of the Center Slush Puppie amphitheater.

Also according to the SPVG press release, the suspects were arrested around 3:30 p.m. following a foot chase. They were then to be questioned by investigators.

No one was injured during this eventful operation. It is also specified that the rumors circulating about an armed person inside the school were unfounded.

A meeting should take place on Wednesday with the school management as well as the students in order to come back to the events and reassure everyone.
