Garou cancels his Russian tour

The conflict in Ukraine forces singer Garou to cancel his series of shows scheduled for next month in Russia.

The Quebec star’s team confirmed to Homework Friday that his Russian tour will finally not take place. The interpreter of Gypsy was to begin its journey in Vladivostok on April 19 and then planned to perform in the following days in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, in particular. He was then going to go to Kiev, Ukraine, but for obvious reasons, this concert is also canceled.

The artist declined to comment.

Garou enjoys a certain notoriety in Eastern Europe thanks in part to the worldwide success of Notre-Dame-de-Paris. The other headliner of the mythical musical, Bruno Pelletier, is also used to presenting shows there. Bruno Pelletier is due to go on stage in Russia in the fall. His entourage said earlier this week that it was still too early to make a decision about the two performances currently on the schedule.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, successful Quebec artists in Russia have been faced with heartbreaking decisions. On Wednesday, it was the turn of the Montreal circus troupe 7 Fingers to announce that it was suspending the creation of its new production in Moscow for security reasons.
