It is the eighth day of the garbage collectors’ strike, Monday, March 13. On the sidewalks of Paris, 5,400 tons of garbage are piling up.I understand everyone who is on strike, I understand very well but after a while, it becomes unbearable“, commented a man. It’s dirty, it’s very dirty compared to a very beautiful city so it must be remedied very quickly“, adds a passerby. On the terrace, heaps of garbage adjoin the tables of customers.

Restaurant owners worried

Jean-Baptiste, a restaurateur, is worried about his turnover. Smells aren’t going to help him attract customers. “I think that this week, if it continues, we will have to close part of the terrace”he reveals. In Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), garbage cans are not collected either. The strikers hold firm and do not want to hear of a postponement of the legal retirement age because of the arduous nature of their work.
