Twenty ‘Galeries Lafayette’ stores located outside Paris, which belong to the same group as Camaïeu and Go Sport, are in great difficulty. A backup request has been filed.
In front of the Galeries Lafayette store in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), concern reigns, Monday, February 20. Since the request for the safeguarding of 26 stores of the brand, customers fear losing their store. “It would still be a store that would disappear, it’s a shame because it’s a quality store, there are things you can’t find elsewhere”laments a passerby.
750 employees threatened
Anxiety is also felt among the 750 employees across France. Some were already demonstrating in Belfort (Territoire de Belfort), Tuesday, February 14. “I’ve been in this store for 24 years, it’s my life”, underlines Stéphane Boulais, seller and elected CFDT. THE Galleries Lafayette in the region have a history almost centenary, first appearing as new galleries. The Lafayette group then acquired them, but no longer owns them since a sale in 2018. The safeguarding would allow these stores to continue their activity.. THE commercial court has not yet ruled.
