Gabriel Fortin, better known as the “HRD killer”, was sentenced on Wednesday June 28 to life imprisonment, with a 22-year security sentence. Journalist Géraldine Chaine provides an update on the case live from the Drôme Assize Court.
The Assize Court of Drôme de la Drôme did not grant any mitigating circumstances to Gabriel Fortin, “the HRD killer”, during its verdict, Wednesday, June 28. “This is the maximum sentence that the Drôme Assize Court pronounced against Gabriel Fortin after a little less than three hours of deliberations”, explains journalist Géraldine Chaine, on the spot. He was convicted of the murders of three women and the attempted murder of a man. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, together with a 22-year security sentence.
Relatives of victims fear appeal
The court accepted the alteration of judgment of Gabriel Fortin at the time of the facts, without reducing his sentence. “When the verdict was announced, the civil parties did not hide their relief. They said they had regained their serenity”, continues the journalist. Today, the relatives of the victims fear that the convicted person will appeal and make them go through a new legal ordeal.
