The comprehensive reform of unemployment insurance announced by the Prime Minister on the evening of Wednesday March 27 is controversial.

To fill the deficit and replenish the state coffers, Gabriel Attal counts now on the full employment. To achieve this, according to the Prime Minister, a new reform of unemployment insurance is necessary. “One of the ways is to reduce the duration of compensation, by several months, I don’t think it should go below 12 months”, indicated the Prime Minister. The announcement provoked the anger of social partners. For the main executives’ union, this new reform is quite simply populism.

New negotiations planned in the coming months

“Populism, its definition is to deny the reality of the facts, contradict oneself, contradict reality, and pretend that it is a specific population which is responsible for the policy that the government pursues”, indicates François Hommeril, president of the CFE-CGC. New negotiations are planned with the Minister of Labor in the coming months. Particularly on compensation for seniors, but the negotiations could come to an end. For his part, Gabriel Attal already seems to be in the future: a meeting is planned this afternoon in Bercy to find additional savings avenues.
