Gabriel Attal suspends unemployment insurance reform

Following the first round of the legislative elections, Gabriel Attal announced on Sunday, June 30, that he was suspending the implementation of the unemployment insurance reform. After the rout of the presidential camp, the Prime Minister wants to make a gesture of openness towards the left in the hope of forming alliances in the future National Assembly. During the first round, Ensemble was the third political force, far behind the New Popular Front and the National Rally.

Announced upon his arrival at Matignon, the reform of the rules for unemployment compensation was supposed to be introduced by decree before June 30, following the failure of the social partners’ negotiations on career paths. This reform, criticized by the unions, was to reduce the maximum duration of compensation from 18 to 15 months for people under 57 from December 1.
