19/20 info receives Yurri Clavilier, geostrategy expert, Sunday September 10. The G20 summit’s final communiqué did not condemn the Russian invasion, which angered Ukraine.

How can we explain the restraint of the G20 which does not explicitly indicate Russia’s invasion of Ukraine? “It’s interesting, because when we compare with the votes at the UN, it was much clearer. We could find some members of the G20 who had voted explicitly. A certain number of countries have established their position vis-à-vis Ukraine and Russia. They are not seeking to change line or support, or condemnation, whether there is a G20 or not”specifies Yurri Clavilier, geostrategy analyst.

A success according to Lavrov

“For India, we can think of the fact that if there is no support for Russia, the fact that there is a restoration of international order is something seen positively by certain actors. In India this is certainly not a problem”, he continues. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calls it a success for Russia. “It is no more a success than a continuation. This G20 is part of a sort of continuity”concludes the geostrategy analyst.
