The boss of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, is singled out this Wednesday, October 19 following the controversy over his remuneration of 6 million euros in 2021, up 50% compared to 2020.

The reactions are diverse and the boss justifies himself on Twitter. “I’m tired of this accusation of ‘going up 52%’. Here is the real evolution of my remuneration since 2017- it is constant except for 2020”reacts Patrick Pouyanne.

The average salary of CAC 40 bosses is around 7.5 million euros. Top German, British and Italian executives all earn more on average than their French neighbours. “I think it’s above ground. We are talking about a salary (…) of 6 million euros and my first reaction is that it can only be badly received”according to Laurent Berger, secretary general of the CFDT. The strikers are demanding a 10% wage increase.
