From journalist to publicist for Hyundai

Until recently, Frédéric Mercier was content manager for Le Guide de l’auto. After almost a decade in the world of journalism, he decided to take on a new challenge by accepting the position of director of public relations for hyundai for Quebec.

To highlight this transition between journalism and public relations, Antoine Joubert and Germain Goyer hosted Frédéric Mercier on the Guide de l’auto program on QUB Radio.

The bridge between the manufacturer and the media

The role of a public relations expert is simple: he is the intermediary between the corporate side and the media.

“My role is to be the bridge between the builder and the Quebec media. I also find it very cool that Hyundai thought of creating a position specifically for Quebec. Having been in the automotive media for a decade, I have seen several positions of this type disappear and this is the first time that a specific position in Quebec has been created,” explains Frédéric Mercier.

An affinity with Hyundai

Having a critical view of the North American automobile industry, Frédéric Mercier would not associate himself with just any automobile manufacturer.

“The brand for me is important. I wouldn’t have done it move for any builder. »

Take inspiration from experienced public relations experts

Frédéric Mercier has no training or experience in public relations. On the other hand, it is about a universe that he rubbed shoulders with closely. In order to meet this challenge brilliantly, it intends to draw inspiration from the work carried out by experienced public relations experts.

“As a journalist, I appreciated the outspokenness of certain public relations officers. I am thinking of Philippe-André Bisson, director of public relations for General Motors. […] I intend to base myself on what I appreciated from the public relations experts with whom I worked to build my identity in this new job”, confides Frédéric Mercier.
