Already relatively well-known in some Asian regions, French singer Joyce Jonathan won over the Chinese public by winning a talent show in the country. She performed classics from the French repertoire, as well as a song in Mandarin.
She is a celebrity in France, but her victory in a Chinese talent show, with 13.5 billion views per season, has given her star status throughout Asia. For four months, pulverizing her 36 competitors one by one, singer Joyce Jonathan won the hearts of viewers by covering standards from our repertoire, such as “Les Champs-Elysées” by Joe Dassin. The 34-year-old also tried her hand at traditional Chinese songs, where she excelled.
Joyce Jonathan is far from being a complete unknown in Asia, where, at the end of 2010, her album On My Guards placed her in the Top 5 sales charts in Hong Kong and Taiwan. “I think I have a good mentality and when I really want something, I give it my all. I really wanted to improve my Mandarin“, she explains. Back in France, the singer will begin a tour of 34 concerts.
