French researchers are studying a new vaccine technique, which would be administered by the nasal route. The method has already been shown to be successful in several administrations in monkeys for other viruses.
Attacking Covid-19 as soon as it enters the respiratory tract, this would be the goal of nasal application. It is in the Bioparc of Doué-la-Fontaine (Maine-et-Loire), that several researchers are experimenting with this new method. “The parasite will enter orally or through the nose, so we will try to develop immunity at the entrance of the parasite “, explains Florine Wedlarski, one of Bioparc’s veterinarians, by administering a vaccine against toxoplasmosis to a monkey.
This conclusive method of nasal administration was developed at the University of Tours (Indre-et-Loire). When the Covid-19 arrived, the researchers at the establishment immediately sought to apply this technique to the virus in humans. “As the nasal cavities are the entry point for the virus (…) these immune mediators will be able to act on the virus, preventing it from spreading in the body to avoid serious forms, but above all preventing it from spreading through the body. spreads through coughing or sneezing“, says Professor Isabelle Dimier-Poisson, Biomap research manager at the University of Tours.
