Difficult to find sunflower oil on the shelves, Thursday, April 21. The war in Ukraine halted production overnight. French farmers are trying to compensate for the shortage. Example in the Val-d’Oise.

In some supermarket shelves, sunflower oil is desperately missing, Thursday, April 21. Much of the production came from Ukraine, and the war stopped all production. In the Val-d’Oise, supermarkets rely on Stéphane Duval, oil producer. For weeks, his phone hasn’t stopped ringing. “We only put half of the order in sunflowers because we can’t provide everything they asked for“, he testifies, about an order from a supermarket.

With limited oil stocks, the company suggests that its buyers turn to rapeseed oil. Its production has doubled, going from 200 to 400 bottles produced per day. At this rate, however, Stéphane Duval will soon have exhausted his oil reserve, four months ahead of schedule. He fears eventually losing some customers.
