Between Olympique de Marseille and Jonathan Clauss, the love story will have lasted two years. Landed on the Old Port in the summer of 2022, after revealing himself late at RC Lens (2020-2022), the French international (13 caps) leaves the Marseille ship. His new home port: OGC Nice, which paid six million euros (bonuses included) to secure the services of the 31-year-old full-back.

On the Côte d’Azur, Jonathan Clauss will be reunited with Franck Haise, the coach who helped to reveal him at Lens, who has also recently arrived at Nice. “It’s true that the possibility of finding the coach again was a factor in my choice”the player said on the club’s website. “I was also convinced by the project presented by the Gym management and by their confidence. I am arriving at an important moment in my career. I need to continue, to continue to play in a European Cup and to evolve in a favorable context.”

At OM, not qualified for the European Cup next season, the context had indeed become tense between the right-back and his leaders. Taken in dislike by the supporters after having made the Euro with the Blues his priority (he did not play a single minute), Jonathan Clauss nevertheless paid tribute to the Marseille public on his social networks: “I would like to thank first of all all the OM supporters for this incredible fervour. (…) A page is turning in my career, and I wish you the best. People of Marseille, goodbye and thank you.”
