Following the detection of two cases of the mpox virus outside the African continent, the resigning Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced on Friday 16 August that he was placing our health system “on maximum alert”. What does this imply?
MPOX, a disease from Central Africa, previously called “monkey pox”, is transmitted to humans by rodents. A new, more dangerous strain of the virus, responsible for skin rashes and fever in particular, is worrying the whole world. Because the disease no longer only affects the African continent: a first case has been recorded in Sweden, another in Pakistan.
In France, the resigning Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced in a tweet on Friday August 16 that he would place our health system “in a state of maximum vigilance”. This involves new recommendations for travelers transiting through risk areas, instructions to Regional Health Agencies and recommendations relating to the vaccination campaign. At the international level, the World Health Organization (WHO) also issued an alert on Wednesday. The goal: to prevent a global epidemic of mpox. This measure should allow coordinated action between all countries to release resources.
