The French Rugby Federation (FFR) took its former equipment supplier, Le Coq Sportif, to court on Wednesday, September 18, due to unpaid bills amounting to 5.3 million euros, FFR president Florian Grill told AFP.They owe us 5.3 million euros in sponsorship contracts, unpaid royalties, late payment interest“, explained Florian Grill. The company’s representatives are summoned on September 27 before the Paris commercial court.

Several plans have been made to settle the Coq Sportif debt, added the head of the FFR. None of these plans have been respected and we are reaching a point where they are being assigned to compulsory liquidation. If they want to get out of compulsory liquidation, let them pay us.. When we arrived at the federation [en juin 2023]we were already at more than 4.6 million euros of unpaid bills” he detailed.

In a complicated economic situation, Le Coq sportif has been experiencing major financial difficulties for several months. Saved from bankruptcy in 2023 thanks to a loan of 10 million euros granted by the public authorities and banks, the French brand nevertheless succeeded in its bet this summer by delivering 1.5 million pieces for the Paris 2024 Games.

Since the beginning of September, the French rugby team has changed its equipment supplier. Adidas will dress the French XV for four years, after having already done so from 2012 to 2018.
