Freezing rain for several areas of Quebec

Winter is well and truly established with the drop in temperatures, while freezing rain is expected Wednesday and Thursday in several areas of southern Quebec.

“A warm front associated with a depression coming from the Prairies will cross Quebec on Wednesday and Thursday,” Environment Canada indicated in a special weather report covering some twenty sectors.

The freezing rain could first affect the southwestern areas of the province as early as Wednesday evening, before affecting central Quebec overnight, while precipitation should reach the Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Côte-Nord during the day of Thursday.

About 10 mm of ice would fall on areas north of Montreal, particularly in the Laurentians, in Lanaudière and in the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve.

Elsewhere, 2 to 4 mm of ice are forecast, particularly in Montreal, Quebec City and Gatineau and Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

“Surfaces such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots could become icy, slippery and dangerous,” the federal agency warned, urging more caution on the roads.
