“Twenty-four hours after International Holocaust Remembrance Day and on the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Bombing and Action Against Islamophobia, Nazi flags are flown in public, in Canada , on Parliament Hill. This should be horrifying to all Canadians,” said Shimon Koffler Fogel, executive director of the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs.
On Saturday and Sunday, Nazi symbols and the Confederacy flag were seen at the truckers’ protest in Ottawa. The latter would also have appropriated the Star of David “in an unseemly way in order to promote his political objectives”.
For the director general of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, Andrea Freedman, all Canadians must reject and condemn “unequivocally” these symbols of hatred “to combat these ideologies”.
“While we are concerned about the small group of agitators sporting the swastika, we are mortified that other protesters have allowed this to continue. The silence of good people is a necessary precursor to the entrenchment of evil,” she added.
