François Legault will announce the composition of his cabinet on October 20

Quebecers will know the composition of their new government on Thursday, October 20 at 2 p.m.

This is the moment chosen by Prime Minister François Legault to make public the composition of his next Council of Ministers, following the October 3 election.

The swearing-in of cabinet members will take place in the Red Room of the National Assembly, as is tradition.

Until then, many newly elected or re-elected MPs will be nervously hovering over their phones, hoping for the long-awaited phone call that could change their lives.

They will be 90 deputies out of 125 from the government formation, the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), while the places available in the cabinet are limited. The disappointed and frustrated will inevitably be numerous.

During his first term, Mr. Legault had formed a cabinet of 26 members, falling within the accepted norm and tradition. If this time, given the large number of members in his caucus, he chooses to reach or exceed 30 ministers, he will probably be accused of squandering public funds and needlessly multiplying the number of ministerial limousines with driver and bodyguard.

This was the case in 2002, when former PQ Premier Bernard Landry caused an uproar at the end of his mandate, trying to buy peace in his caucus with no less than 36 limousines parading in front of parliament, a record all the time.

The Caquiste deputies will be sworn in on Tuesday, October 18 at 2 p.m.
