François Legault has COVID-19

Quebec Premier François Legault has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a post on social media, he said he began to experience symptoms of the disease on Thursday afternoon, but added that he felt “good”.

“We see it with the rise in cases lately: the virus is present in Quebec. Let’s continue to be careful. We will get through this together, ”wrote the Prime Minister.

He will work remotely for the next five days. “For the moment”, no case has been reported among the other deputies of the CAQ, according to the office of the government whip. All staff, however, were asked to follow public health guidelines “depending on the exposure they had with the Prime Minister”.

Since last week, all deputies have sat in person in the Blue Room, provided they wear the mask. Only the person speaking can remove it temporarily. Plexiglas separators have also been removed between parliamentarians.

François Legault received his third dose of the vaccine on December 27.

Recorded cases of COVID-19 have continued to increase in Quebec. On Thursday, the Health Ministry reported 2,295 new cases. However, this number is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority groups. Quebec also reports 14 new deaths attributed to the virus and an increase in hospitalizations (+28).
