The former President of the Republic answered questions from Caroline Roux on France 2 on Thursday evening.
A barely veiled criticism as he has the secret. Guest of the program “L’Evénement” on France 2, Thursday May 30, to discuss in particular the war in Gaza and the war in Ukraine, François Hollande was questioned about the European elections of June 9. Around ten days before the election, the presidential camp is facing polls at half mast with the head of the list, Valérie Hayer, peaking at around 15%, while the National Rally list led by Jordan Bardella exceeds 30%.
Will Emmanuel Macron be able to overcome the result with three years left in power? “There is stability in our institutions, assures François Hollande. I myself experienced elections which were not famous and I held on until the end of my mandate, taking particularly heavy decisions on the domestic and international level. The PS had, during the 2014 European elections under the mandate of François Hollande, achieved a catastrophic score of 13.98%, behind the FN and the UMP.
“It is the institutions that protect. However, we must always hear what is happening,” continued the former tenant of the Elysée. Before attacking Emmanuel Macron and his supporters more directly on the strategy of the duel with the far right: “When we installed the National Rally as the only alternative, we should not be surprised that to sanction the government and the President of the Republic, it was the National Rally that was used. It would be better if there were other alternatives on the right, on the left, I hope rather on the left, to provide this alternative, and not the National Rally.” Asked about his support for the socialist candidate Raphael Glucksmann, François Hollande did not wish to elaborate, for fear that his speaking time would be counted against that of the head of the PS-Place publique list.
