End of a new imbroglio on the left. After a few hours of confusion, the former President of the Republic François Hollande was indeed nominated as a candidate for the legislative elections in the first constituency of Corrèze under the PS label, supported by the New Popular Front, Saturday June 15.
The former socialist president announced his candidacy in the morning with the PS label daily The mountain. This decision was then validated by the local section of the PS in Corrèze, which declared having “chose the candidacy of François Hollande” on the social network
The PS leadership first contested with France Télévisions having granted the nomination and support of the New Popular Front to François Hollande, specifying that “only the bodies of the national council or the national office can nominate candidates”.
“We take note of the choice of the federation of the Socialist Party of Corrèze to invest it”finally wrote the PS on X, arguing that François Hollande “declared this week that he recognized himself in the approach and project of the New Popular Front”.
Arthur Delaporte, outgoing PS deputy from Calvados, greeted Franceinfo “a responsible choice, (…) which helps to give credibility to an alliance that some sought to demonize”. “What all these rallies show today (…) is that there is today only one alternative to the rise of the extreme right”estimated the former spokesperson for the PS group in the Assembly.
Invited to the 8 p.m. news on TF1 on Thursday June 13, François Hollande welcomed the dynamic of union of the left at the origin of the New Popular Front, believing that “it is up to the left to do its duty, (…) and its duty is to create unity, that is to say, to be able to bring together all the political families of the left who have divergences, that is very clear, but which demonstrate responsibility”.
