François Bayrou files complaint after receiving death threats, investigation opened

Two anonymous letters were received by the mayor of Pau on July 11 and 15.

François Bayrou is filing a complaint after receiving death threats, franceinfo learned on Wednesday July 31 from a source close to the case, confirmed by the prosecutor of Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). The mayor of Pau and president of the MoDem received two anonymous letters at the town hall on July 11 and 15. Contacted by franceinfo, the prosecutor of Pau indicated that he had opened an investigation into the heads “insulting a person in a position of public authority and death threats against a person holding public office”.

According to the first elements of the investigation close to the case at franceinfo, the city hall services received a first letter which contained a sheet of paper with, written on it, outrageous writings and threatening to kill François Bayrou. A sheet signed “NFP/Nemesis”the first term being able to refer to the New Popular Front, the second – Nemesis – to a small identity group “feminist” self-proclaimed.

The second letter was received at the town hall secretariat and contained only insulting remarks. According to a source close to the case, the handwriting between the two letters was different. The Pau judicial police have been notified.
