On Friday December 16, the football world was shaken by the death of Sinisa Mihajlovic. The former Serbian international has died at the age of 53 from leukemia. The former AS Roma, Genoa, Lazio and Inter defender had been battling this disease since 2019.
During his career, he notably won the European Cup of Champion Clubs (now the Champions League) with Red Star Belgrade in 1991 against Olympique de Marseille. This free kick specialist converted to coaching from 2008, he was on the Bologna bench last season.
Several tributes from former players, teammates or opponents have already been paid to him. Franck Ribéry expressed himself on Twitter: “I had the pleasure of meeting you, you had a great personality, a man who gained enormous respect and a fighter until the end. You taught many values in the world of football. You will be missed. Rest in peace Sinisa!”

Just like Serie A, the championship where he played for 14 years wrote: “We would like to extend our condolences to Sinisa’s family, friends and the whole football family on the departure of the icon of Calcio (Italian Championship). His impact on our game, our country and on our hearts as well as his fighting spirit and good heart”.
