France will regain control of the Arabelle turbines which equip nuclear power plants, only ten years after ceding them to the Americans. EDF bought the nuclear activities of General Electric.
They are essential to the operation of nuclear power plants. The manufacturing of Arabelle turbines returns to the French flag, ten years after their sale to the American General Electric. EDF has officially taken over the nuclear activities of the American company. On the production site in Belfort (Territoire de Belfort), Friday May 31, employees were delighted with this news. “We are proud to build nuclear power, it’s a great source of pride”said one of them.
The return to the French fold of this company marks the end of ten years of a long political and economic soap opera. In 2014, under the presidency of François Hollande, France reduced its nuclear ambitions. Alstom then has no choice but to sell its energy branch to avoid restructuring. Emmanuel Macron, who has since become Minister of the Economy, finalizes the sale in 2015. The purchase of all activities, in 2024, is expected to cost nearly a billion euros.
