France | Nearly 66,000 new cases in 24 hours, a peak since April

(Paris) The wave of COVID-19 continues in France, the number of contaminations registering Wednesday at its highest level since the spring and hospitalizations continuing to increase, according to daily data from Public Health France.

In the past 24 hours, 65,713 new cases have been diagnosed, an unprecedented level since the beginning of April. Their average of the last seven days, more telling to avoid daily fluctuations, continues to rise to 50,131.

“We are almost at a situation of equilibrium: […] we can consider that we are in the form of a peak ”, however noted Wednesday the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, in front of deputies.

The persistent increase in cases can indeed be explained by the unprecedented number of tests. The positivity rate, which relates the number of cases to that of tests, does not decrease and remains at 6.7%, an indicator stopped three days before its publication.

This increase in cases is reflected in an increase in hospitalizations even if the high level of vaccination attenuates this correlation. In the last 24 hours, 1,453 people have been hospitalized, including 274 in critical care.

A total of 15,062 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 2,843 in critical care.

Since the start of the pandemic, 120,983 people have died from COVID-19 in France, including 93,403 in hospital

Finally, 76.1% of French people are vaccinated, to 51,319,584 people.
