France is tightening up the conditions of access to its territory in the face of the surge in cases and the threat of the new Omicron variant.
A negative test of less than 48 hours will be required from Saturday for travelers coming from a country outside the European Union. For those coming from an EU member country, a negative test of less than 24 hours will be mandatory, only travelers are not vaccinated. For travelers coming from one of the ten countries classified as scarlet red, such as South Africa or Mauritius, quarantine is now mandatory. These new measures are variously appreciated by travelers.
Is this new turn of the screw effective in slowing down the arrival of Omicron on the territory? According to Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist, it is above all a question of saving time, because this “can be a very good strategy [pour] get to know it better and possibly be able to better prepare for the fight against it. “ There are at present thirteen suspected cases of the Omicron variant on French territory, which are being sequenced and the results of which should be made public in the coming hours.
