France Bleu Azur tests summer hikes in the Alpes Maritimes: Circuit de Trécolpas

Direction the Circuit de Trécolpas

Very pleasant route in the forest punctuated by superb vistas on the border ridges of Haut Boréon and among them on the spectacular gneiss walls of Cougourde (2,921 m), a characteristic peak in the shape of a gourd (“Cougourde” = “ Squash” in patois, hence this amusing surname).

By the majesty of the site, the quality of the rock and the respectable height of its faces (400 m), the Cougourde has attracted many climbers in summer and autumn for more than half a century.

The route is also embellished by the regular presence of water, from the small adjacent valleys to the green lagoons of Boréon with the highlight being the peaceful Lac de Trécolpas (2,150 m), nestled directly above the Pas des Ladres (2,448 m), obligatory passage to the Madone de Fenestre sanctuary and very popular in July-August.
