Contract fulfilled. As for the Olympic Games, where the Blues secured the announced top 5, the French Paralympic delegation validated its objective of finishing at least in the top 8 of the medal rankings at home, Sunday, September 8. If there are still a few events to be contested at the beginning of the afternoon, before the closing ceremony, France can no longer be caught by Australia (9th). The French delegation finished with 75 medals, divided into 19 titles, 28 silver medals and 28 bronze medals.
The Australians would have needed two more titles to do better than the 19 French gold medals, because they are far behind in terms of silver medals (28 against 17). However, there is only one Aussie athlete left, which mathematically condemns Australia to finish ninth.
For a long time placed between fifth and seventh place, the French team dropped back towards the end behind Brazil, Italy and Ukraine. With this result, it nevertheless achieved its best ranking in the 21st century, since we have to go back to the Sydney Games in 2000 to see the trace of a 7th place. Enough to make us forget the disappointment of Tokyo, where the final 14th place had been experienced as a real snub.
