The shortage of doctors is a campaign theme for all the candidates. More than 6 million French people have no attending physician. How to attract GPs? Report in La Souterraine, in Creuse.

La Souterraine (Creuse), 5,000 inhabitants, is a rural area like there are many, where finding a doctor has become even more difficult in ten years. But for the past few months, a wind of youth has been blowing through the town. Four young general practitioners have just moved into a brand new medical center. Albert Bach, 28, arrived in early January. After working for a year in Lille (Nord), the young practitioner finally preferred the countryside to practice. “There is a very pleasant living environment. People are quite relaxed, overall“, he admits.

Albert Bach is not the only one to have made this choice. Three other general practitioners preceded him. Something to arrange their schedule between them, and promote teamwork. This organization convinced them, as well as financial incentives to cover the costs related to their installation. A necessary presence in this territory with an aging population, which gives hope to the inhabitants of the town. The department suffers from a continuous decline in the number of general practitioners.
