The region is facing a new offensive by Moscow’s troops. Russian bombings left at least four dead on Sunday, May 19, on the outskirts of the city of Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, the region’s governor announced. “At least eight people are injured”added Oleg Synegoubov, specifying that the Russian forces had “attacked the area [dans laquelle] the inhabitants were resting”. The bombings hit the Malodanylivka district, in the northwest of Kharkiv, he said.

The Russian army’s assault in this region, launched on May 10 after an intensification of airstrikes, allowed Moscow to record its most significant territorial gains in a year and a half.

Russian troops managed to advance five to ten kilometers along the northeast border, before being stopped by Ukrainian forces, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with AFP on Friday.
