The Belgian, who started the race in fourth place, overtook pole position holder Mitch Evans (Jaguar) on the podium. Jean-Éric Vergne (DS Techeetah), the only one to have collected points in each of the six rounds of the championship this season, finished third.

New Zealander Evans had the momentum after winning both Rome ePrixes earlier in April. A yellow flag and the exit of the safety car after the loss of energy from the leader, Pascal Wehrlein, helped Vandoorne to take the lead. Behind, Evans passed Vergne in the final moments.

With 81 points in the drivers’ standings, Vandoorne leads Vergne by six points. Evans and Robin Frijns (Envision) follow with 72 and 71 points respectively.

Formula E will travel to Germany in two weeks to play two stages in Berlin, on May 14 and 15.
