Jean-Marc Furlan, the former coach of AJA, the Auxerre (Yonne) football club, goes to the industrial tribunal on Monday June 10, according to exclusive information from France Bleu Auxerre. He contests his dismissal for serious misconduct in October 2022, and demands nearly 1.5 million euros from the Icaunais club.
The former Auxerre coach was sacked on October 11, 2022, after giving the middle finger to a referee and Auvergne supporters during a tense match against Clermont on October 9. These insulting gestures were filmed by the broadcaster Prime Video and Jean-Marc Furlan was expelled from the game.
In the post-match press conference, the coach did not apologize, reports France Bleu Auxerre: “The public insulted me. I turned around, I gave the finger”he explained. “I don’t have a brain. I’m quite violent in my behavior when it comes to football. I don’t regret it. Not at all.” Laid off two days later, France Bleu Auxerre recalls that Jean-Marc Furlan was then sanctioned with a four-match suspension (one of which was suspended) by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League. The former coach is also in full conciliation with Stade Malherbe in Caen from where he was also sacked last November.
According to Me Christian Vignet, interviewed by France Bleu Auxerre, the former Ajaist coach demands “nearly 1.5 million euros” to the AJA: 426,000 euros in damages, 360,000 euros for image damage, 360,000 euros under the professional football charter (article 657), 42,000 euros for the remuneration period of layoff, 130,000 euros for the loss of chance of obtaining the contractual maintenance bonus, and 180,000 euros corresponding to three months’ salary for procedural irregularities.
