A third contingent of firefighters from France will arrive Wednesday afternoon at Jean-Lesage airport, to lend a hand to those fighting forest fires.
This new detachment will take over from the 120 French firefighters who arrived in the province on June 28.
Among them, 75 firefighters from the departmental fire services and 45 military rescuers will be accompanied by a team of experts from the specialized communication module for the emergency services, the FENICS, “which will make it possible to set up or restore means of transmission in areas devastated or not covered by a network”, indicated the Consulate of France in Quebec by press release, Wednesday.
“This tool will significantly improve the efficiency of firefighters in fighting fires in forested and northern areas.”
The second detachment will return to France, having helped control a total of three major fires in the Pascagama, Windfall and Chibougamau sectors.
Remember that a first contingent of 109 French firefighters arrived in Quebec on June 8th.
